Overnight low was 76 degrees with a slight breeze most of the night but crept up to 79 degrees before sunrise as the breeze shifted direction. 68 degrees one canyon over near Sycamore Creek. Lots of Bats all night. Lots of birds stopping by for a drink at first light including a hummingbird that was interested in me and what I was doing there. We had a staring contest. Saw 3 instances of bear sign. 2 small to medium size bears and 1 large left evidence. One bear scat was mostly dry the others were completely dry. Coyote sign and saw 2 foxes. 1 cow. Saw a skunk on the drive in. Humidity crept up during the night but slept well with temps in the mid 70s. Drank directly from the stream near the source. There is over 2 hours of full shade after sunrise due to the canyon walls. The trees are coming back nicely along the canyon floor after the 2012 Sunflower Fire. |
