| no partners | | | It rained last night so I decided to try my luck on the sandy nightmare EMRP trail known as Pedersen. Got a late start at a bit after 9am from the Estrella Foothills Highschool parking lot. Standard route to EMRP park Iron Ranger using Pirate Park Ave to Crossover Trail. From there, clockwise on Toothaker, Gadsden, Pedersen, back to Toothaker. I had tried to ride the sandy part of Pedersen once before from east to west and had to bail because it was so bad (sand). Today I would try tackling that 2+ mile section uphill (2%). Went better than I expected. Figured out that if I kept my weight back and peddled as fast as I could, I could stay on top of the sand. Heart rate was a pretty steady 170 bpm for most of that run. The reward for that slog through the sand comes once you turn back north and get to ride that sweet singletrack predominately downhill back to Gadsden. Ran into 3 ladies at the intersection of Toothaker and Pedersen. They were doing a 8-9 mile loop on Toothaker and Coldwater. Such a pleasure chatting with these ladies. Returned on some extra Pirate trails, Jolly Roger, Bootlegger, Jump Line. Felt real good on the bike today! |
