| no partners | | Feeling not the best but got it sort of done. Wanted to drive up high on the road but there was icy thin snow and frozen slush so parked and hoofed it. Slippery even walking up the road. The old cut the snow was over my boots thank goodness for gaiters. Once around the corner in the sun in the clear. The old traverse sort of trail is an ankle killer with all the rocks and a bit slippery with the melted snow.
The wind kicked up then my eyes were watering and my nose running. Depth perception sucks when you can't see clearly.
Got to the entrance. Avoided the small amount of snow so no prints. Now I had fully charged multiple headlamps and kept my pack with me. This mine is so mazy and lots of collapses and vertical shafts. One room with badly shattered fallen rock I managed to traverse and got to the room with the carbide lamp writings from in the 30's. Another room was like a dome, the hole in the ceiling probably 50-60 feet up. I saw one bat drifting around. Lots of trash, mostly newer empty bottles of oil or lubricant fluid. Some older stuff too. I did a couple of ladders but being by myself shied away from some really interesting stuff.
Finally out and the slog back to the car. I still want to come back when the road is dry ( still rough) so I can car camp high up with the Jeep and get to the mine and spend all day without having to drive home. |
