Some time spent in the Eureka Valley, at the dunes and surrounding areas with a nice drive out the northern part of Death Valley. Highlights--- at the sand dunes I was up on a high ridge and a fighter jet making a loop of the dune field came in fully banked underneath me. I could see the full top of the plane and the cockpit. Of course didn't get a pic but a great and loud experience.
A canyon I didn't plan on but turned out well, great colors. A butt kicker of a hike to a relatively unmolested backcountry mine camp that was so bad I escaped on my own off trail route; no way I was reversing my initial approach.
Steel pass is supposed to be closed but it appears people are driving it to the springs--YMMV.
