An enjoyable hike with Preston to the summit of Bigelow. We hiked from the highway and the closed Bear Wallow Rd, but used the social trail that we descended in June when we did the Butterfly Loop, cutting out some miles. There was some snow, but nothing here that would require snowshoes, and even though I brought crampons in case of crust or ice, I never needed those. Soil is moist from the Christmas rain and the melting snow from these light January storms, but the mountains will need a lot more come May. Maybe this next system will deliver?

Excellent views, pretty good air quality and the Western Superstitions and 4 Peaks were clear, again. The White Mountains were also visible at one point. The sky lighting is always beautiful up high as the evening turns to night. Plus, I've been over 8500' for the year! Okay, that last one isn't very impressive.
