| no partners | | I was going through Santa Rita withdrawals! It had been since December 10th that I was last on Wrightson, and I was last in the range on December 25th. Good thing the recent beautiful weather isn't just confined to the low desert with very pleasant high 70s and low 80s. It was very warm and calm up here, and I was briefly shirtless on the summit.
It has been wet, but there wasn't snow until around 7500'. The snow is fairly deep and sloppy above Baldy Saddle, but there doesn't seem to be an ice layer near the cliffs on the north face so the most you might want is mild traction. I carried and didn't need my crampons. My ice axe was helpful. Snow conditions will change over the next 48 hours with the next storm.
This time of year most people do the lower loop around Josephine Saddle, and I saw only 1 person above it.
Real nice day on Wrightson. 58th summit, and I was able to have my best month since October of 2022 at just over 29,000' of AEG. Way better than expected when it was cold early in the month. Dry conditions are still better than sloppy deep snow, so I probably won't be back until it dries out in either March or April. |
