| no partners | | 3 recent outings. I wouldn't call them hikes.
On Mar 11 I did a glyph-hike that I thought was too minor to post. Not much more than two miles (but 4 hrs) and included some roadside glyphs I've posted before and also a new section of cliffband not far from Gillespie Dam. [ youtube video ] (17min)
A week later my son & fiancee visiting from NYC requested some small/quick adventure on the way to lunch in Sedona. I marked a few points in Rarick Canyon. The water was high though so we just went to one, but it's a good one. [ youtube video ] (53sec)
Two days ago I planned another trip near Gillespie (planning to look at geoglyphs) but even before I started I dropped my phone (camera) at the top of a cliff and it fell into a crack. I couldn't find it at top. I couldn't find it at the bottom of the cliff band either. I ended up driving back to Buckeye/Walmart where I bought a bright flashlight. As expected, no pay phones, and when a clerk at the store let me use his phone, of course no one will answer an unknown number. Modern problems.
When I got back to the "drop zone" I noticed a truck and found another retired guy-glyph hunter who helped by calling my phone, but that didn't work. He advised me to forget it (fooling around on the top edge looked a little dangerous).
Anyway, I figured it had to be somewhere, and using the flashlight and a pole I was sure it wasn't in the crack at top (but by then I had some doubt I was even looking in the right crack). I placed a dead little bush at the "output end" of the cracks so I could recognize it from below. One more trip to the bottom and I could see that hole and lo and behold I saw my phone lying flat, face down, in a hole below my feet. The thing works! I declared victory and went home.
