| no partners | | A trip to check out trail conditions. I was thinking about hiking into Haunted Canyon this week but longhiker asked about trail conditions on Paradise trail. I didn't know but changed trailheads to take a look. The road to Miles Ranch is bumpy with a few ruts but passable by most medium clearance vehicles. I didn't see another vehicle beyond the campsite at the turn beyond the bridge. The road is narrower than I remember it being but no fallen rocks or trees. I parked across from Paradise trail and started the hike up realizing I've only ever hiked down the trail in the past. The morning was cool but no wind down in the lower section. There are several downed trees but most are easy to bypass. One area has a tree tangle that will take some work to clean up. The brush is encroaching the trail higher up but not bad enough to impede progress. Once I got to the saddle by Government Hill the wind picked up and it was nice and cool. I hiked down to the junction with Haunted Canyon trail and turned back. I would have continued but have had some minor respiratory symptoms so kept this one short and easy. The hike down Paradise trail was much better. The temperature was pleasant the entire hike. |
