Headed up the 60 past Superior, turned off on Pinto Valley Mine Road and headed up 287A. Made a quick stop at Miles to enjoy the scenery (no other vehicles were at the TH) and drove back up and parked at the Paradise Trail parking area. It was a bit warm and already after 1 so a quick hike up to Paradise Spring was the plan. About a quarter mile from the spring I came across an open area that had a pink tent setup underneath some trees. There were some shoe prints around it, however, it didn't look like anyone had been there in awhile. I called out to see if anyone was in it and with no answer I unzipped it. Completely empty, weird. On the way down, I caught a quick glimpse of something running through the brush on my left side. I didn't get a good enough look to see what it is, but whatever it was it was about knee high. Threw some rocks over in the brush to try and chase whatever it was out but no dice. By the time I was almost all the way down the wind had picked up a lot, which made the sun not quite as warm. Not a long hike today but still got in some wilderness time. |
