I followed Dean Gaudet's route which was very helpful. I decided to bag Peaks 2959 and 2933 which were also included in his route.
The night before, I camped about 1.4 miles East of the Usery pass gate in the Bulldog canyon area. There was a $6 fee to enter the area which I paid online and printed a receipt. The road required 4x4 and I found a good campsite area that was private about 100 feet from the road. I did hear shooting from the nearby shooting range but that seemed to stop by about 8 pm. After 8 pm I heard a few 4x4 vehicles ride by on the main road but didn't hear anyone too late. I slept great and the overnight low was supposed to be around 50 F.
I started hiking Lance's trail around 8 am. Within a few minutes some mountain biker's passed me. With such a great trail, it was understandable that this was a popular area for mountain biking. But, I only saw a few mountain biker's and once they passed me, I didn't see them again. After reaching a junction, I went straight to continue on the Alpe D'Huez trail. Then, at the 3rd sign, I continued on the trail going to the High ridge. It was pretty steep getting up to the ridge, but once on the ridge the hiking was easier. I planned only on summiting Usery BM and Peak 2959 South of it. Tim T. told me someone put an American flag on Peak 2959 and it was only a few hundred feet from Usery BM so I thought why not. There was a "use trail" basically going all the way there. Following Dean's route, I also bagged Peak 2933 which was only 1/4 mile up and down from the main loop trail. All in all it was an enjoyable hike. The trails were well-maintained.
