The Subaru would have caught air a few times but the weight of four passages kept the tires on the road. The start of the hike was warm but after a few miles some clouds moved in and it was pleasant for a while. The hike up the mesa was an even grade and we made good time on the first ten miles. We stopped for lunch and before continuing up. The trail was still good and if you turn back at eleven miles the hike back would be easy. The trail on the mesa was there until it wasn't. We followed the fence line, cairns and the cliff line. The pine and juniper trees are a nice touch. Not much fauna along the way but there were some squirrels. The group moved along pretty well keeping insults to a maximum and whining to a minimum.
I wasn't in shape for a twenty mile hike but strangely felt good the entire way. The warm hiking in the sun wasn't awful but I should have brought another quart/liter of hydration. It was nice get on the trail with Bruce, Joe and Linda to see what I was missing. You know what curiosity did to the cat. |
