| partners | | short hike in Saguaro National Park, one we have done many times before. Instead of stopping at Wild Horse Tank we continued on upstream. Before continuing on upstream we stopped to admire what I think is the grandest saguaro ever, can't even count the arms on it. Upstream travel is slow, climbing over boulders, determining the best route and avoiding the thorny brush. we continued on until we hit a narrow crack in the canyon about .5 miles up and that was as far as we could go. As far as we were concerned it was impassable. If the crack wasn't impressive enough the gigantic rock cliff on the East side was scary looking, looks like the whole cliff was being held up by little rocks that were probably really under a lot of pressure. There was one rock about 6 inches in diameter wedged under the cliff, looks like if you removed that rock the whole cliff would come down. I didn't take any chances so I left it alone, in fact I didn't even gaze at it too hard.
I really want to explore this canyon further up stream to where the Wild Horse Coral is, from Google Earth it looks rather fascinating. Will need a longer day hike and will most likely involve heading upstream from above the canyon walls, Maybe from Steel Tank along the Three Tanks Trail.
Really dry in the Park, I was surprised to see pools of stagnate water at places along the creek. The Spring above Wild Horse Tank had a very light seep or maybe I should say the ground was damp. Headed back villa the Carillo Trail and Three Tanks Trail. |
