Belated post. Visited this National Monument on the way back from Branson. Watched a video on Carver’s life. Talk about overcoming insurmountable odds. Truly a remarkable man. Afterwards wife and I walked a short paved/ gravel path. Visited the house where he was raised for a short time and the Carver cemetery (he was not buried there). Walked through a nice wooded area with a stream and small pond.

Carver never really knew his mother or father and he was raised for a short time by his “owners”. However, they raised him as a free man and he left early in life to pursue an education. Truly amazing his desire for knowledge and his ability to educate himself considering all the obstacles he faced. He graduated from college and went on to be a college professor and a notable scientist. He is buried at Tuskegee University.

There’s a lot to be said about our National Parks, Monuments and Memorials.
