| partners | | linda threw out this idea for our hike today
all new territory and on my to do someday list so it sounded good
scenic drive to the trailhead near the srp gate
scenery throughout the entire hike, too
we started up the regular trail to black cross butte, then made the short side trip to chalcedony cave
worth a visit
we also found quite a few chunks of chalcedony
up to the butte, taking in the north view and the summit
great views and interesting rock formations
went down the scramble route, which was pretty well defined
one scree slide
two narrow slots to climb down
we decided we could add on a mile of crucifix canyon
went as far as the arch, which was kind of underwhelming
the boulder hopping and bushwhacking was fun
steep canyon walls gave it a remote feel
water was flowing in the canyon, and we went a little beyond the arch to see what was around the corner
might be fun to do the whole thing
would also like to visit peak 3042 next time
this was enough for today; a lot of bang for the buck
