| partners | | Short hike with the kids to take advantage of the cooler temps. There were a few other cars at the trailhead, but they seemed to be camping, not hiking. Headed uphill, making our way up the south and west slopes of Black Cross Butte. The trail is generally easy to follow, but loose and rocky in a few places. No issues for the kids though.
At the saddle, we took a break, then headed over to Chalcedony Cave. The kids liked the small cave and the geology of the area. After that, we headed back to the saddle, then up to BCB. Once up top, we headed over to the medicine wheel, then to the north edge of the butte. We meandered back south to the high point, where we took another break before retracing our steps back down.
Saw two people as we were heading down, but that was it for the day. Slow descent in some of the rockier places, but overall, it was an easy walk back to the trailhead. Nice, easy day with the kids. |
