4 of us got up there Friday night. A series of negative factors kept me awake virtually all night. Great way to enter the longest hike of my life. Start getting ready 4:30 am, in car at 6 and on shuttle at 6:30.
Wow, my 1st glimpse at the canyon. Take pics before starting. Scurry on down before chilling at Tipoff. Run into the other member from our group. He has already made it to Phantom and back!!
When we make it to Phantom, we hang for an hour. We've gone from cold in the pines to the desert floor. Climb back up to Tipoff is challenging and required multiple breaks. Tonto an easy connector + treated us to some Fall colors.
Hang at Havasupai Gardens for another 40 mins. My 1st time here, no rush. What's all the babbling about? This isn't difficult. Oh, that final climb out. Switchbacks, steps and double your AEG within the last few miles.
Dark outside and exhausted by the end. Barely catch the the final shuttle out. I'd do it all again. The Ridgeline is still more extreme. Will always remember this day. |
