A few weeks ago I had “skied” coming down it. Took the National down to where Gila Trail now starts. First time hiking this western extension of the Gila. It’s probably a year old, but you can still feel the “newness”. It doesn’t extend much further west before topping a saddle and passing the Bursera Trail junction. It’s been a while so I decided to stay on the Gila and take that back to Lost Ranch and then to the TH. Pretty nice loop. Lost Ranch is a either direction, but I’d rather go up it. The National and Gila are “strolls in the park” comparatively speaking. Saw two joggers on the western tip of the Gila and then one other as I approached the TH. No wildlife. Temps were nice; I think in the upper 60’s at the start of the hike. |
