Not a lot of room for parking along the road. Room for about 10 cars….I was the tenth. Not sure what the neighbors think, but this would be a great place to add a TH. When I reached the Ma Ha Tuak I did a figure 8. First, going north and wrapping around the smaller hill. Then hiked the saddle between the hills and went along the spine of this northern segment. Pretty short spur. Afterwards, hiked down from the saddle and rejoined the Ma Ha Tuak from where I first started and then hiked south along the Perimeter. This part of the figure 8 was much longer. About 2.5 miles long. Hit the National and then hiked along a portion of the spine on the southern segment. There are four high point along this stretch. There is a well defined trail for the first and the trail becomes quite a bit fainter past this second peak. I was happy enough with just hitting the first two.
An ok loop. It’s been years since I’ve hiked these foothills of South Mountain. It was a nice way to incorporate this part of the Ma Ha Tuak Perimeter. No wildlife. Decent amount of traffic for a Saturday morning. Encountered 2 joggers, 3 bikers and 10 hikers. It’s kind of weird to say I beat the heat in March, but I did. |
