I figured since the Horse Ridge Trail is always hot, that it would make a nice cooler weather hike for us and I also guessed that winter deadfall would not be an issue on the trail and it was not.
We just hiked down to a nice little turn around point just after two miles and then returned the way we hiked in. You drop elevation quick and gain some on the way in, so we still picked up a thousand on the day. The drought is doing a number on the ponderosa in the lower elevations, which was a little disheartening to see. The trail was in excellent shape to the spot where we turned around. |
