This trip started off pretty lame with millions and millions of snow birds all driving down to Tortilla Flat. The average speed from Idaho road to to Tortilla flat was inbetween 25 & 30 mph...and that's including most of the way being a 50 mph zone. Stuck in the mile long convey, I was frustrated from the beginning. I finally got down to Fish Creek and I looked up at one of the canyon walls, and there was a waterfall coming down it. I'm sure a bunch of you have seen these walls before, so you know they're huge. I walked towards it to take a picture, and with my 10mm lens, I barely got it in frame (1st picture). I then went down to the creek, and man, it was rushing, the water took up almost the entire canyon floor. Last time I went, the creek was about a foot wide, and this time, that was all there was to walk. I wanted to get to the fold, and I really had to push myself to get there. I had to cross the creek a total of 4 times the whole trip, and on the way back, all ten of my toes were numb. I really didn't take very many pictures, just because I was so focused on getting to the fold, but I think these photos are better than last times. I got out of the canyon at 6 o'clock, and decided to wait until it was completely dark to go home. I've been interested in trying star trails, and I decided this would probably be a good place and time to try. The moon was too bright, and I don't have a shutter release cable (getting one soon) so it kind of moved a little. I just decided to put it on here anyway for fun (last picture), it's so weird that it looks like day time, even though it was shot in darkness. (it was a 7 & 1/2 minute exposure). |
