Hit the loop counterclockwise from the Wind Cave TH at 6 a.m. Clouds on the eastern horizon and a decent breeze kept things relatively cool and shaded for most of the loop. Didn't have to pull out the sunglasses till almost back to the TH. Then we added a quick trip up to the Wind Cave, and managed to stay in the shade for the upper portion of the trail. Traffic was fairly light on the loop trail; more busy on the Wind Cave trail. Lots of ruts in the trail from the recent rain, but no big deal for hiking--probably presents more of a challenge for the mtn. bikers. The beauty of this hike is being able to knock out 10+ miles and still be home by 9:30 a.m.
