| partners | | I set out with the intention of introducing 9L and Karl to the approach route to Eagletail Peak, knowing that it would not be a summit for us (hell, I can't even get up there with an experienced climber leading! ](https://hikearizona.com/dex2/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif "Brick wall") ) but I recall what an impressive geologic ridge this is and figured it would be worth another visit just for the views.
That knife edge is as spicy as I remembered and we decided to turn back before making the final sketchy move down to the lowest saddle before the big push up to the base of the feathers. Great views and a snack break at knife point 3043.
From there we followed my "trace and a prayer" route along the crest of the range toward the north-northwest. There was one obvious massif obstacle that we knew we would have to find a way around, but were pleasantly surprised with a sheep trail that made it pretty reasonable. The rest of it was as enjoyable as any mountain ridge in the state. We took a break and found a register at peak 2861. It contained a single entry, dated 14 years ago. Apparently this one isn't on an internet list lol!
I would absolutely do this route again (and probably plan to go even farther). There were a couple of little annoyances crossing the deep washes in the flatlands between the mountain and the wilderness boundary which slowed travel near the end, but all-in-all, a very enjoyable day. |
