| partners | | Years ago, I had drawn up some tracks for this area, but never got around to actually hiking it. Bruce had drawn up some similar tracks, so we decided to finally make a day of it.
Hiking up FR191 was mostly shaded with a moderate grade. Some vegetation, but not too bad. Easy hiking. We turned up to the swingset. Slightly steeper, but still nice. We poked around the area of the mines, swingset, and other remnants, but manzanita kept us from straying too far.
Once back on the road, we passed more mines as we headed to FR201. At that intersection, we headed up towards Pine Butte. Very steep on the so-called road. Once the road ended, it was messy off trail towards the summit. As the brush seemed to get thicker, we decided to bail on getting up top. I don’t love pushing thru manzanita. Took a break, then headed back down.
Once back at 201, we had extra time, so we followed a @hikerdw route north and around Pine Butte on a very nice trail. It had some shade and good views and was well worth the extra mile or so of hiking.
Retracing our steps back out on 191 was easy and went by quickly. Fun day exploring some all new territory! |
