| no partners | | Had time for a short loop on SoMo this morning. My son’s school bus hasn’t shown up for a couple of months now (thanks, Kyrene!), so drop offs and pick ups have been challenging, and further limits when I can start hikes on weekdays. Already warm when I got started from Bursera TH around 0800.
I made my way over to Lost Mine and up. Not much shade at this time of morning. I felt tired, but seemed to be moving at my typical pace on this one. Went over 2484 when I reached National, then west. Heard some movement to my left that could only be javelinas, and quickly spotted two of them on the hillside. Not a great angle for pics, but managed to get a few.
Farther west on National, I spotted a large flock of white birds, looking very out of place. Took some pics of them as they flew from Ahwatukee, across National, then over to Maricopa Peak where they disappeared from view. Chumley said they were pelicans, and he’s almost always right about everything, so I’m going with pelicans.
Headed down Ruins, which is in slightly better shape these days. Very warm by then, but at least I was going downhill. Finished around 1000. Good workout. |
