Joined the Bagel Bunch (Doug, Nick, John) for a ride in the White Tanks today. Started at the Library and took Mule Deer clockwise to South, Goat Camp, Bajada, back to Mule Deer. Then over to Ford Canyon counter clockwise to Waddell and Mesquite Canyon back to Mule Deer returning to the Library. Lots of folks out hiking on the trails this morning and some bikers. Saw a couple on a tandem mountain bike, that was pretty cool. Trails were really dusty, when is it ever going to rain again?

After recently hiking in the San Tan Mountain Regional Park, I'd have to admit the White Tank Mountains are growing on me. The crappy traffic involved with accessing both areas is similar, but the White Tank Mountains (plural) has so much more to offer than the flat, uninspiring monotony of San Tan Mountain (singular). If you're a trail runner, mountain biker, or one of the Gilbert Moms, then STMRP is definitely for you. If you're a real hiker, the upper reaches of WTMRP are probably going to bring you more joy. We completed both summits in under 2h 15m, which was a slower than normal pace because of the pooch (but Dese was insistent on padding some stats and adding a few new peaks). We could have finished the complete lasso loop in under 5h total, but the day evolved nicely weatherwise, so we added on a few easy, quick out-and-backs of the [ South Trail - White Tank Mtns ] , [ Bajada Trail - White Tank Mtns ] and Old Stable Trails. I suppose [ White Tank Radio Smt via Verrado/Tower Rd ] is on the shortlist now. To all the nutrition waist channels who've left garbage in the summit register, don't fret, that trash has been hauled out. NGAF about your Singapore Tourist Pass discounts or that you wear Cinch Jeans.

Short, midday hike in the White Tanks. I did an in and out on the South trail, gathering info. Just me and the jets today, along with a couple of chipmunks.

A lot of growth and road construction occurring out here. Noticed a lot of RVers are camping out on the south side of the road that enters the park. There must have been 7 campers out there this morning. That is new. I wonder what is causing this?

White Tanks Tuesday! Started at South Trail, to Goat Camp, Bajada, Mule Deer, Mesquite Canyon, Waddell, Ford Canyon, Gray Fox, Comp Loop, Gray Fox, Ironwood, Ford Canyon, Mule Deer back to South trail to complete the loop. Lots of cars in the parking lots and hikers out on the trails. Saw a few bikers too. Cattle drive going on south of big hill on Mule Deer. I was dragging today, couldn't wait to finish the loop.

Researched to figure out what part of town I could hike in without getting drenched. White Tanks looked to be the answer + a strong chance of seeing the waterfall. Mmmm, no. I would suggest trying on Tuesday.

We then did the "long" loop. After we pondered where to go next. We decided on mule deer trail. That was easy. Let's add South trail. On the way back, why not tack on Bajada trail. All of which were rather easy. Not a drop of rain fell on us.

Nice follow up to yesterday's Brown's Ranch ride. Carey organized the ride and made some new friends, Nancy, Angie, Rachel, and Janet. Great temps and nice cloud cover. Lots of riders, hikers, and some horseys out on the trails today.

Every time I head out to the White Tanks for a mountain bike ride I always end up riding the competitive loop. Today I decided to explore some of the other trails the White Tanks have to offer. I parked at the trailhead for South trail. I followed the following trails in a clockwise direction: South, Goat Camp, Bajada, Mule Deer, Mesquite, Waddell, For Canyon, Ironwood, and returned to my truck all the way back on Mule Deer. I encountered a fair number of hikers and bikers under the overcast skies this morning. Most were super happy to see me. I know I was super happy to see them, even the ones that didn't return the super happiness. South trail and Goat Camp were a little bumpy. The rest were smooth and well groomed. Signs at all the trail intersections. Nice relaxing ride. Almost thought I was going to get rained on.

Went back to White Tanks to do the hike I planned last week that got put on hold from the fire. I hiked the lower trails, with the main goal to finish all the Mule Deer Trail since it's part of the MT.

I started down at Parking Area 1 and hike the southernmost portion of the Mule Deer Trail, eventually heading north. I hiked the little spur over towards the Nature Center, since that's also a designated part of the MT. As I hiked over the high point of the Mule Deer Trail, that's where the wildfire was. Mostly just scorched earth, not as much brush as there was before. On the way up the hill, 4 or 5 mountain bikers flew down the hill past me without the slightest thought of yielding the trail. All other hikers and bikers I encountered the rest of the morning were decent human beings.

At the staging area, I headed north on the Ford Canyon Trail, then took a right turn and hiked all of the Ironwood Trail, then headed south on the Waddell Trail. After the Waddell, I took a right turn onto the Mesquite Canyon Trail back to staging area.

Hiked over the hill on the Mule Deer again, and took the Bajada over to Goat Camp. Along the Bajada is where I saw the saguaro with a hole in it that obviously has a bees nest. The air rushing out of the whole made it sound like there was an AC unit inside the cactus. Managed to zoom inside the hole for a decent pic without putting myself at too much risk.

From the Goat Camp Trail, I turned left on the South Trail and back to the car. The temperature wasn't too hot. Got a little warm the last hour or so, but not unbearable. The early morning light cloud cover helped with that. Nice to get some higher mileage on actual trails again, even if the AEG was still a little lacking.

After work run. Parked just off the main road, near a restroom, where the Bajada Trail crosses the road. Did a CCW loop with a tail. Took the Bajada west to where it connects with the Goat Camp. I was on that very briefly and then took the South Trail to the Mule Deer Trail. Took the Mule Deer all the way to where it ends at the Ford/Mesquite TH (this gave me the tail). Then back on the Mule Deer to the Bajada junction which I then took back to my car. Nice group of trails to jog on. Fairly rock free with some minor elevation change. No wildlife, but the trails were busier than usual. Met a couple of mountain bikers, 1 trail runner and 9 hikers.

Headed out to the Tanks with no particular trail in mind-- I have been wanting to do Goldwater Peak for a while but was getting a late start and decided I had neither the time nor the energy on this day. Ended up stopping at Area 4 parking lot and heading Southbound on the Mule Deer Trail.

Nice hike with only minimal foot and bike traffic on Mule Deer in spite of the abundance of cars throughout the park. The South trail makes for a nice little connector Eastward back to Mule Deer with only the need for about 100 yards walking along the roadway.

Great location. Beautiful day. What more can one ask for?

Hit the trial with my youngest daughter for the first time. She loved it....well for about the first .5 mile. Then she was asleep for the rest of the ride. But that's ok. The trails were in great condition. There was very little traffic.

Started on South Trail. Then hit Goat Camp. From Goat Camp, I jumped on Bajada leading to Mule Deer which brought us back to the trail head. Beautiful day!

Mirrored a run I did back in December. Started off from the South Trail and did a loop going clockwise. South Trail - Goat - Bajada - Mule Deer - and then back on South to finish the loop. There is a company offering horse rides and sometime in the last 6 months they have adopted South Trail as part of "tour". It's amazing how soft the trail has become since my last run there - almost wash like at times. As I did the Bajada the condition of the trail changed noticeable where the horses turned off onto another trail. Still a nice little loop, just a little dustier. No hikers, but did pass 4 horsemen churning up the trail.

Mental cleanse on a Friday morning that was mild enough for me to get out in the late morning without cooking. It was a jog/hike and carved up the loop for the mild terrain, although the trails were sandier/less compacted than anticipated. Turned around at Black Canyon but would like to take Goat Camp up further into the cut next time.

Unexpected perk of getting out there during the week - Ranger Ricky was feeding her pet desert tortoise. I'd been looking for one in the wild, and this gets me a step closer. It proved it's worth as a desert tortoise when I learned it's favorite food is Cilantro.

Btw, water's available at the Goat Camp trailhead.

Finally made it out to the White Tanks for the first time this year. I actually lived fairly close to them as a kid and used to hike out there all the time. Some friends and I decided to do Ford Canyon-Goat Camp today, which we used to do all the time as teenagers, although parts of the trails are very different than they were 20+ years ago--much easier these days. We started from the true Ford Canyon trailhead, went up Ford Canyon (my favorite part), came down Goat Camp, gave some of our extra water bottles to some lady who was hiking with her kids without any water ](*,) , then decided to take South trail (boring), to Mule Deer (boring, plus it smelled like the backside of a horse) to get back to my car. Super fun day, passing certain parts of the trails kept reminding us of the various adventures (mostly shenanigans) we'd had out there many years ago.

Quick run in the White Tanks. Did a clockwise loop starting from the South TH. Followed this to the Goat Camp and then took the Bajada to the Mule Deer and the Mule Deer back to South Tail. I also did an in and out on the Old Stable Trail just to pad my mileage...it may have added .3 The beginning and the southern part of the Mule Deer were slightly uphill, but otherwise the trails were fairly flat. A little rocky at times, but otherwise ideal for jogging. Met a couple of dog walkers and that as it. No wildlife. Looked like there had been some accident at their gatehouse where you in enter the park. There was a hole in the front of the building and there was caution tape encircling it.

Got a late start and headed up the nearest ridge in hopes of reaching Peak 3251 and possibly 3671. Turned back super early after seeing more of the terrain on the ridge and accessing my current pace. Saving the whole ridge for another day was the right call.
