| partners | | Denny finally ran out of excuses to avoid hiking with me. We met at 0800 and got started up Telegraph. Cool to start, and cloudier than expected. Headed west on National at the pass, then opted to continue to Goat Hill.
Down Ranger, then east on Las Lomitas. Stopped at the ramadas on the closed road, where the parking area was filled with vehicles. From a distance, I decided they were all firefighters and made a beeline for the parking area. Confirmed the vehicles were indeed all belonging to firefighters, but they were nowhere in sight.
As we approached Kiwanis, we could finally see where they were training, up on the ridge and lookout on the east side of Kiwanis, which had also been an option for today’s hike if we had decided to skip Ranger/Goat Hill. I was slightly saddened at the missed opportunity, but we enjoyed watching them training on the rocks above us.
The sun made a brief appearance as we ascended Kiwanis. Telegraph was quite busy as we finished. Good hike, good workout, and fun to hike and chat with Denny again! |
