Quick loop around Calderwood to complete this set of trails. Minus the trail race and mountain rescue, not much to see out here.

I started from my campsite at Lynx Campground, took 305 to 311 to 94 to Salida Gulch and completed the entire loop. This was a great trail run with a tremendous amount of variety.

Opted for the Ouray Via Ferrata over the one in Telluride for a couple of reasons (easier to access, more climbing), and it turned out to be a blast!

Solo ascent of Mt Sneffels after the storms cleared. I started my climb up the road from the lower trailhead at 10,600ft. The upper trailhead is at 12,400ft and only the most outfitted Jeeps or RZRs could reach that point.

From there it is a very steep 1.2 mile climb up 1,700ft on a class 3 route to the peak (think about a steeper version of echo canyon at altitude), with one little crux about 100ft shy of the summit. It is every bit of awesome as it sounds!

Ran the southern end of Ridgway State Park. The trails are outstanding and the views even better.

Since the weather in the San Juans wasn't cooperating at the start of my trip, I decided to try my luck at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Storms loomed in the distance, but the canyon was clear. I scored the last available permit for the Gunnison Route and made a very steep descent into the canyon. And by steep I mean the downhill seemed harder than the uphill. It was a fun adventure and I highly recommend it!

Permits were available the evening before (4:30 to 6:00) at the visitors center, or walk up day of.

The La Sal mountains are pristine, the peaks dramatic, and the "trails" are steep...what's not to love?!

Camped at Fool Hollow for the first time and ran the trail around the lake this morning. Nice, easy running with lots of wildlife around the lake.

Made it back to Escudilla, this time a successful trip to the summit. Ironically, the weather conditions were almost identical, but without lightning this hike.

Saw some Elk and only one other couple. No one in the fire tower.

First stop in the White Mountains was for a run along Timber Mesa. Ran it clockwise, first 2.5 miles were super rocky and technical, without much elevation gain. Then a little confusing with the PML trail intersecting on the way back and I actually fell short of the listed 7.5 miles. Oh well.

An absolutely gorgeous day for a hike in Sedona (not that every day isn't), and if felt good to get up North and take in some fresh air. It has been a few years since I hiked Bear and enjoyed everything about it!

I checked the last box on the Mcdowell Sonoran Preserve (covering every mile of every trail) and also went over 1,000 miles on the year. Not listed on here was the main area I needed to complete, and that was Rawhide Wash.

Sometimes the forecast can be misleading, as we were expecting nice, sunny temperatures for the climb today. Instead we had chilly, overcast and blustery conditions for a somewhat exposed climb up the south crack. Really fun 3-pitch climb though.

I did it, I made it to 2,500 miles for 2019! My legs were definitely feeling it these past two weeks as I have been averaging almost 10 miles per day in December. Not sure why I was aiming for that number, just sounded like something fun to do to end the year.

Hiked to little granite mountain to climb the Pasta Slab with AMC. Nice outing with cold temps at the beginning before warming up to perfect climbing conditions.

Wally and I met up for a peak bag, though our original plan to hike Silver Bell fell through with an impassible road to the trailhead, so we did Wasson instead. First time for both of us on this particular route.

I landed the permit from the BLM back in June and started planning the trip to the Wave. I had no shortage of takers for this one, and the group turned out to be myself, Matt, Lisa and Sandi who flew in from Denver for this. We spent the weekend in Page, which was a lot of fun, before heading over on Sunday for our day hike along the wave trail.

It's really hard to try and describe this area, but if you get the opportunity to go, you'll know what I am talking about. The amount of unique formations in this bizarre landscape is almost visually overwhelming. Pictures will never do it justice, we were just fortunate to see it on a near perfect day.

The four of us kayaked from the Antelope Point marina into the lower portion of antelope canyon and back.

We were very impressed with the facilities at the marina and easy of access to the lake. Oh, and kayaking in a slot canyon was pretty neat too!
