Four of us did Hells Gate Trail yesterday. Weather was perfect, wonderful cool breeze with filtered shade which helped with the climbing back up. Over the Rim coulds had been gathering and at one point we heard some rumbling.
Took some picture with my new Garming Monterra, but havent had a chance to look at them. BTW, taking pictures with the Monterra tends to drain it's batteries.

The day prior to the hike I did a dry run to the TH coming in from the east side. I really didn't care for the rough road so the day of the hike decided to drive in from the more popular west side.
It was a bit warmer to our liking but overall not too bad. We were greeted on the peak by another lady with her dog who left shortly after our arrival. (Not sure I would take my pooches up there but then again, they don't know they are dogs) My partner and I spent a fair amount of time between eating a snack eying Butterfly peak :-k and enjoying the surroundings before climbing back down.
(Yes tibber, I did remember my camera :D ) and took plenty of pictures but haven't had time to look at them yet. Hopefully get around to it within the next couple of days

I forgot how beautiful this trail is. The only thing I would change is departure time (had to park in the overflow lot) and not to do it on a Holiday weekend. Felt like Grand Central Station :o Enjoyed the scenary and company. Still plenty of water along the trail. No pictures as I forgot my camera :(

Four of us decided it was time to search out Robbers Roost yesterday. We knew it would be cold, however climbing up Carney kept us warm. Half way up it started to sleet/snow and by the time we made the Ridgeline it looked like winter wonderland. Not knowing what to expect from the snow we decided to turn around and come back another day. Wish I would have brought my camera (left it in the car :( ) the terrain was absolutely beautiful with the snow coverings. By the time we made it back to the car the sky was blue and all cleared up (of course). :tt:

Hubby, our two Labs and I headed up to the Williams area for a few days. Although hubby is not a 'hiker' I talked him in to join me with the dogs for a nice stroll up to Williams Peak.
Nice hike but we missed the foliage by a few weeks. Never the less I was impressed that hubby hung right with me and did not complain like he normally does :D (I always knew there was a hiker hiding inside his body LOL).

Heading into the Canyon tomorrow. :y:

we left Phoenix on such short notice, forgot my camera

Mt. Princeton, at 14,197 ft., was one of the 14ers left to do on "my bucket" list. Gpsjoe did this one in 2005 a year prior to me coming annually with him to Colorado and we had planned on doing this one together some day.
This year my husband and I stayed in an RV campground in Nathrop, CO where Mt. Princeton lies straight ahead within a short drive. I remember gpsjoe telling me you he drove up to the 12,000 foot elevation, thus shaving off a lot of elevation and mileage.
After reading about the access road in the 'Colorado Fourteens' book, my husband, I (and our two yellow Labs) thought we'd scope out Mt. Princeton Rd. on foot to see if our Dually could fit on this narrow rd. We hiked up from the Mt. Princeton TH (8,900') to the radio towers at 10,820 feet. Although there are some tight spots along the way; it is possible (with a prayer that no opposite traffic would be encountered) to drive up to 10,820 ft. From the Princeton TH to the 10,820 ft. elevation is 7 miles RT which tuckered out our pampered Labs and short of the TH my husband slipped and got pretty banged up. Luckily, nothing serious happened just nasty scrapes and bruises. As luck had it, one of the folks in the RV Park had been looking to do Mt. Princeton and was hoping to find someone to hike with him. How was that for luck?
5:30am we started to our journey to Mt Princeton. We made it with no major problems to the 10,820 ft. As we hiked up to the 12,000 ft. spot, we were amazed how good that section of road was and plentiful parking opportunities along the way.
We easily found the junction to the trail that leads to Princeton. There are some obvious rock steps on the right side that lead up and over towards the west side of the base of Tigger Peak. From there the trail is well defined but after 1/2 mile it became rocky. Another 1 1/2 mile further there is a very large cairn marking the trail leading up to the ridgeline and saddle that looks over to Mt. Anterro. From this point on there is another mile of slow going climbing over the rocky ridgeline to Mt. Princeton Peak. Of course the last 1/2 mile is very steep but the reward is a spectacular view of the many 14ers in the area. We could even make out the shape of Pikes Peak to the east.
It was now time for a lunch break, some pictures and looking for the sign-in roster. The sign-in roster was a rather small tube stuck in between the many rocks that provide some shelter from the weather. To my disappointment; the stack of papers with signatures was all from April 2011 on. One of the men on the peak told me that the register tube gets emptied on a regular basis because that peak receives so many visitors on a daily basis. Supposedly, the names on the registry are then entered into a DB (Where to look for on the web is guess work). Clouds started to gather from all sides and became very dark, so we decided to head back. To our surprise there were still way too many people heading for the peak having at least one additional hour of climbing! Looking at the weather we felt this was not a good choice.
We did get rain but at that time we were almost back at the 12,000 ft. tree line level.
When we started our climb we contemplated hiking over to Tigger Peak but that plan was tossed once the clouds rolled in.
This hike is to be in the memory of my hiking buddy gpsjoe. Miss you!!!

Did this as a car drop at the Cline TH, began our hike from the Ballantine TH (off the Beeline Highway). After we reached Boulder Flats the trail became difficult to spot at times. Near the Corral we decided it was getting toasty and took off our pant legs. That prove to be a big mistake as we soon found out. Trail became totally overgrown in sections. We all drew plenty of blood and one of my friends needed some surgery on Monday to have a piece of wood removed that had embedded itself into his leg :o !
Higher up we came across a couple of patches of snow that was melting fast.
All in all a beautiful hiking day but this trail needs some major maintenance before I'll do it again. Guess I'm a 'sissy'

Although the day started out quite windy and cool it soon warmed up to pleasant temps for the day. Started our hike from Roger Trough TH. Along our way, we made sure we looked up Reavis' grave and then took a brief snack break at the Reavis Saddle. Met up with some hikers that were with a group of two horseback riders who told us not to be alarmed if we see quite a bit of blood on the Circlestone climb. One of the horses backed into a prickly brush/tree but was OK. Glad they forewarned us. We did came across the blood and it did look scary :scared:
We enjoyed a nice lunch break at Circlestone and marveled at the view before heading back.

Our plan was to do the Hellsgate trail, however with the recent weather decided to hike in more suitable temps :D
When we got to Peralta TH (around 7AM) there were already a ton of cars, although most looked like they been there overnight. We started hitting the Bluff Springs trail onto the Terrapin and were pleasantly surprised over the lack of excessive catclaw. The temps were perfect and with a cloud covered sky we had some ideal hiking conditions. On Top of Black Top Mesa we took about one hour lunch break before heading back down and onto the Peralta trail. This is when we encountered the first hikers. Of course the closer we got to the saddle the more folks appeared and going down the Peralta it was Grand Central Station.
Thank you Don and Jim for a perfect day!

This was my first time in that section of the White Canyon Wilderness and absolutely a fantastic area.
Not soon into our hike, the trail soon disappeared and it was bushwhacking and exploring. After 4 miles into the hike we dropped down into a canyon (I don't have a clue of the name :o ). The plan was to explore below and come back a different way. Once at the bottom we were greeted by pools of water that soon became deeper as we went along, so all decided it was time to turn around and go back the same way.
Love to go back someday and do some more exploring in that area.

Since we are blessed with the cooler temps for the moment I decided to take advantage of my back yard, South Mountain. The nice thing not having to drive, so I hit the trail as soon as I left my development and headed over to Desert Classic Trail, from there up to Corona De Loma and then connecting to the National Trail until it ties into Telegraph Pass. From there down and back to Desert Classic Trail.
I was surprised only having to encounter about 10 dirt bikers where usually on the Desert Classic you will get about 10 every 10 minutes :o
Beautiful hiking weather and the bonus not having to drive for hours. :y:

Given the nice cooler temperatures my friend and I decided to do the this hike. Since I'm always in a hurry I realized too late, I left my hat, gloves and poles at home. After meeting up with my friend the two of us arrived at the TH in no time and the only ones there. As always, the views are exceptional. There appeared to be a few snowy patches further up the higher elevation.
For us the weather was perfect and I look forward hiking up to Cline the next time.
Does anyone know what the last stretch of the road is like to Cline?

This is a round trip hike from First Water TH to Canyon Lake Restaurant and back. Total mileage RT is 15.1 miles. It's an easy 15 miler although one racks up plenty ups and downs (2827 ft in total).

It was a bitter sweet hike in memory of my buddy gpsjoe. Joe loved this hike having the caveat of a good lunch waiting at the half way mark. We miss you!

The benefit of hiking this trek on a Friday is encountering few people until you get close to Canyon Lake. As always, the Fish Fry was really tasty (but a tad pricey).

Wonderful hike and great weather!

I have not done the Cave Creek/Skunk Tank Loop since 2005 and now I know why. I attribute the season for the lack of excitement about this loop.... sorry Mark. It will be a loooong time until (perhaps ever) I have the urge to hike this trail again. Except for it being a nice workout and good company I was rather disappointed. Only problem doing this hike in another month or two when things are in bloom is are the temps by then.

Oh well it's all in a day of hiking. (I'm beginning to think I'm a hiking snob) :)

At the last minute I talked Mark into hiking Devils Chasm instead of the original plan to hob nob around in the supes. We didn't know what to expect as far as the road conditions nor the trail. Before we knew it we were at the TH. It appears there had been some major maintenance done to the road so it was a breeze getting there.
Little did we knew that we'd be paying for the ease of getting there later on on the trail. The waterfall had more water running over the sides where you needed to climb than usual due to the slow snow melt, which made is slow going for the climbs. Once we reached the end of the falls the icy snow got got a bit deeper just enough to mike life more difficult. We came across places we just didn't want to tackle due to the icy conditions and exposure causing us to do several avoidance climbs. The real fun began that last steep stretch to the ruins. I'm looking forward to Marks post as I'm sure he can tell the story a lot funnier than I. :) By the time we did enter the ruins (oh that was another fun climb since all the rocks have been covered with water on the verge of ice) our energy had been totally depleted. After some pics and a much needed snack it was time to turn around since this has been taken us way too long. This was my fifth time to the Ruins and it was by far the most difficult one due to the snow/ice. But then again, what did I expect mid Jan.?
The important thing that we made it there and back safe and sound and had a fun time doing so. :y:

My first hike in the new year! Laurie, Karen, Peter and I got started around 11am. FW TH parking lot was almost full. The weather was perfect, not windy but cool and the view to the snow covered four peaks was spectacular. The crossings had some water but not too much.
We did encounter a solo hiker (his first time in the Supes) who asked us how long the loop was. We started counter clockwise and he came in clockwise and at the point we met, he'd only been in 1 1/2 hrs. I asked him if he'd had a map or GPS, which none he had. He proudly stated he had a flashlight. We advised him that perhaps it would be best to only go another mile or two then turn around and come back the same way because there are several cross trails and without knowing the terrain it's easy to get lost. He didn't seem to receptive to that idea, so let's hope he made it out OK.
After we all went for a bite at the Dirtwater Springs Cafe in AJ. Great way to start the new year! Thank you Laurie!

It was time to do the loop again. This time gpsjoe and I wanted to make sure to make it to white mans peak. Prior to this we always assumed that we were not allowed to go further than the intersection sign on top where it meets East Baldy trail.
The trail appeared to be a breeze this time without all the fallen debris we had to deal with a couple of years ago.
After reaching the intersect post on top I continued to follow two other hikers. We reached the giant cairn and noticed several others following a well defined trail. So we continued figuring there would be a notice when we'd reach the 'forbidden zone'. Went up to a peak that later turned out to be 'Baldy Peak' :scared: Linked up with gpsjoe again who remained 'legal' who confirmed that I broke the law :o
Weather wise we really lucked out too. There had been lot's of rain recently and clouds threatening the area on our way back but we only received a couple of sprinkles.
Love that hike!

Hit the trail a couple of minutes before 8AM. Temps were perfect all day and the lake absolutely beautiful. We found hiking the east side of the lake a lot easier than the west side. Joe kind of hugged the bottom path on the west side while I hit the higher trail which was a lot easier to navigate.

We expected to get baked in full exposure on the down trip of the Babe Haught trail, but pleasantly surprised that we ended up with plenty of shaded segments on the way back.

Great hike.

before I left Mt Graham to return to the sweltering heat  , gpsjoe and I hiked the complete Cunningham Loop, both upper and lower plus the two mile extension. Total mileage round trip was 9.1 with 1042 AEG.
Absolutely beautiful trail, much better than anticipated.

Joe was spending another day and by the time I left he had not decided what kind of trouble he wanted to get into but I'm sure he found something :D
