This was our first time at Patagonia Lake, on a very pleasant day. We kayaked around on the lake for a bit then took the Sonoita Creek loop trail. The state park maps say this is a 1/2 mile trail, but from the beach parking lot and around the Lower Loop and back was 2.7 miles. Lots of wildflowers and birds. This is a very easy trail, albeit a little overgrown right now, but still simple and easy to follow.

We had an afternoon reservation to tour the Big Room of Kartchner Caverns, so we went early to get in trail time. This is a nice loop trail that goes outside of the Foothills Loop trail, around the hill where the caverns lie within. Saw a few deer right near the Discovery Center.

It's been a while since we visited the Cheerie Cows, we forget how magical this place is. The Massai Point lot was full, so we started from the Echo Canyon parking lot, headed to the Mushroom Rock/Big Balanced Rock trails, played around in the Heart of Rocks for a while then headed back. It was a nice treat to see snow on the surrounding mountains, and water flowing in the little creeks!

We've never been (but have wanted to go) to the Cochise Stronghold area, and it didn't disappoint! Especially with quite a bit of runoff from the recent rains. We got a late start and weren't able to go much further than the Half Moon Tank, but will be doing the west side in the next couple of days.

I've seen pictures of The Devils Postpile and always wanted to visit. What and amazing and intruiging place! It's just a short 1/2 mile walk from the trailhead (get there early to get a parking spot!), then you're presented with this huge cliff face of hexagon columns that are breaking off, leaving huge rock columns scattered below the cliff face. While you can't climb on the fallen columns, you can climb to the top of the rock, where you'll find that the entire rock mound is made up of these columns. I'm going to research it further, but I don't believe there's any place else like this in the US (maybe the world?). This National Monument is just west of Mammoth Mountain Village, a great place to shop or grab a snack after your adventure!

Not wanting to face the crowds in Yosemite on a Saturday, we opted for this little hike about 5 miles from our campground. What a nice hidden gem! A well maintained trail along the South Fork Tuolumne River, with a few microbursts of uphill/downhill scrambling towards the end. There was only a handful of people while we were here, but there was a large Boy Scout troop heading there when we were on our way out. This makes us remember that even in a BIG park like Yosemite, we must not ignore the little gems nearby.

What an enjoyable loop hike! We went counterclockwise to the Sentinel Dome first to get the uphill out of the way, took in the splendor of those 360 degree views from the top of the dome, then headed on to Taft Point. The trail to Taft is mostly downhill, and the views are so spectacular that even Cell towers can't spoil them! Once at Taft Point you realize just how massive this place is! There's a tummy-turning feeling when you're standing at the edge of a 3,000' drop. From there we walked the mile back to the parking lot and headed to Glacier Point via the truck, glad we drove, it would have been a trudge getting back to the parking lot. We ended the day at the iconic Tunnel View overlook. Totally a great day!!

Day 1 of our 2 week Yosemite exploration, we chose to go to Wapama Falls. We were the first ones at the trailhead (7:30am) and it was nice and cool, and pretty breezy. Seeing the falls in the distance make it really exciting to get to their base. Got a bit warm on the way back even though it's September! Great first day here.

The first of several hikes in the Bryce Canyon area. We weren't expecting to go to the bottom of the canyon, but once we started we couldn't stop - Bryce is just too beautiful to not explore completely! Started out in mild, partly cloudy weather, by the time we got back to the rim it started snowing on us.

Took a friend out to see if we could find any wild horses on the Lower Salt. Saw two walking together, cool... Then we came across a herd of 10 or 12, then two other herds with more than 20 each, and finally a group crossing the river. Also saw a big ol' lone bull that crossed the river 3 weeks ago when it was low, he's still hanging out in the same area.

Took advantage of the cooler wearther and did this nice little loop up and over the Western Loop Trail.Pretty view of Sunrise peak (and it's trail) and Rio Verde to the north. Took the long way home via Bush Highway in hope of seeing some wild horses, and it didn't disappoint!

We parked at the first turnout near Granite Reef Dam, then walked a mile up the road to the Wild Horse trail. Twisted Sister forks off that, took it to Sagauro trail, then the Mine trail over the hill and back to the parking spot. Saw a HUGE hawk circling probably 200' above. Got back to the truck just as it was getting dark.

What a great afternoon!
1. A 5.4 mile hike from our house to Granite Reef Dam.
2. Ran across a few of our beautiful wild horses, complete with a little one!
3. Caught a glimpse of the lower, lower Salt River (below the dam).
4. Another Spectacular Arizona Sunset on the way home.
5. Excitement as Mesa's finest do their best to rescue a Javelina that got stuck in a drainage right behind our house.

I haven't been to Praying hands in over 10 years. It hasn't changed much, imagine that. Quite a few people today in the park, but not as many as we expected. Wondering where the trail heading east ends up? does it meet the Massacre Falls trail?

It's been a few years since we hiked the Hawes Trails north of Las Sendas. Not much has changed, except the trails are obviously getting lots of use by the mountain bikers, and one of my favorite cactus' growth seems to have been stunted. Great day to get out!

Saw this trail when doing the Ridhgeline and said, "We gotta do that one!" This is a nice, not too difficult trail that end with great 360 degree views of 4 peaks, the Supes, Camelback and the McDowells. The Western Loop trail is next on our list in this area.

Trying to get at least a good couple of miles every day this year, haven't failed so far. This is a nice desert area just outside of our neighborhood (~1,000 feet from our house), that is due to be subdivided and built into a high-end gated community. If it does happen, we'll miss it, seeing as there are a lot of nice paths that seem to be miles from nowhere but are right next door.

Day 3 of 2021, hike #3 of 2021! We read about this in the newspaper, so had to check it out. It's a good hike, albeit a bit crowded, and the fact that you're surrounded by the town of Fountain Hills (definitely not in the bondocks!) during the whole hike. The 360 degree views at the end are nice, you can see from South Mountain to Mount Ord and beyond.
