The first of several hikes in the Bryce Canyon area. We weren't expecting to go to the bottom of the canyon, but once we started we couldn't stop - Bryce is just too beautiful to not explore completely! Started out in mild, partly cloudy weather, by the time we got back to the rim it started snowing on us.

Took a friend out to see if we could find any wild horses on the Lower Salt. Saw two walking together, cool... Then we came across a herd of 10 or 12, then two other herds with more than 20 each, and finally a group crossing the river. Also saw a big ol' lone bull that crossed the river 3 weeks ago when it was low, he's still hanging out in the same area.

Took advantage of the cooler wearther and did this nice little loop up and over the Western Loop Trail.Pretty view of Sunrise peak (and it's trail) and Rio Verde to the north. Took the long way home via Bush Highway in hope of seeing some wild horses, and it didn't disappoint!

We parked at the first turnout near Granite Reef Dam, then walked a mile up the road to the Wild Horse trail. Twisted Sister forks off that, took it to Sagauro trail, then the Mine trail over the hill and back to the parking spot. Saw a HUGE hawk circling probably 200' above. Got back to the truck just as it was getting dark.

What a great afternoon!
1. A 5.4 mile hike from our house to Granite Reef Dam.
2. Ran across a few of our beautiful wild horses, complete with a little one!
3. Caught a glimpse of the lower, lower Salt River (below the dam).
4. Another Spectacular Arizona Sunset on the way home.
5. Excitement as Mesa's finest do their best to rescue a Javelina that got stuck in a drainage right behind our house.

I haven't been to Praying hands in over 10 years. It hasn't changed much, imagine that. Quite a few people today in the park, but not as many as we expected. Wondering where the trail heading east ends up? does it meet the Massacre Falls trail?

It's been a few years since we hiked the Hawes Trails north of Las Sendas. Not much has changed, except the trails are obviously getting lots of use by the mountain bikers, and one of my favorite cactus' growth seems to have been stunted. Great day to get out!

Saw this trail when doing the Ridhgeline and said, "We gotta do that one!" This is a nice, not too difficult trail that end with great 360 degree views of 4 peaks, the Supes, Camelback and the McDowells. The Western Loop trail is next on our list in this area.

Trying to get at least a good couple of miles every day this year, haven't failed so far. This is a nice desert area just outside of our neighborhood (~1,000 feet from our house), that is due to be subdivided and built into a high-end gated community. If it does happen, we'll miss it, seeing as there are a lot of nice paths that seem to be miles from nowhere but are right next door.

Day 3 of 2021, hike #3 of 2021! We read about this in the newspaper, so had to check it out. It's a good hike, albeit a bit crowded, and the fact that you're surrounded by the town of Fountain Hills (definitely not in the bondocks!) during the whole hike. The 360 degree views at the end are nice, you can see from South Mountain to Mount Ord and beyond.

This is a loop (or I should say "Loops") with multiple trails/paths throughout the area just north of Red Mountain Ranch. There is a heart made of rock outlines that can be seen on google earth that is a tribute to the victems of Sandy Hook. There used to be names on all the rocks but the sun has faded them all away. Someone(s) took great deal of effort to line the pathways in the immediate area with rocks. Great little getaway close to home.

We've vowed to track our hikes here (again). Starting the new year off right with this little gem. We've never been to the Spur Cross area before, and we're definitely going back for more! We were going to do a different loop, but the guy at the pay station recommended Elephant Mountain - it certainly did not disappoint! Plus, with a completely packed parking lot, we encoutered zero people once we were on the actual EM trail portions. I recommend doing this loop counter-clockwise, the view at the saddle is a nice reward for the steep uphill getting there, and the gentle downhill at the end of the loop is a welcome cool-down.

Nice, albeit very crowded, hike in the MSP. We've never done any of these trails, its a nice trail system! Next on the list is to stage a car and start and the Tom's Thumb trail and end up here.

Needing to work off some Holiday cheer and dinners, we headed to Sabino Canyon. No fee day, and it showed (crowded!). Only got rained on for a little bit, still a nice littel hike. We always love the Sabino area, crowds or no.

We haven't been hiking nearly enough this year, so getting a head start on a totally "keep-able" New Years Resolution, we did this nice little loop in South Mountain. A lot less people than we expected, cloud cover to keep it cooler, it was a nice little hike! The ridgeline is should be named the Rollercoaster trail.

Found this hike on HAZ, and opted to do it instead of Fairy Falls. We di this counter-clockwise, taking in the uphill and overlook before getting to the falls. Our timing was perfect, when we hit the overlook, Old Faithful just began erupting. The falls were if course spectacular, with lots of "myst."

Marking off trails in the Sedona Area. This is a nice loop trail near Long Canyon. We did it counter-clockwise, but should have gone the other way. The west side of the loop has more shade that would be nice on the return leg.
