Great day to be outside! I met some friends this morning by Lake Pleasant for some off road fun that was followed by a quick lunch. Since I was in the area, though with limited time, I planned on hiking the Walkin' Jim Trail. There were two other vehicles at the TH (non-hikers) and I didn't see anyone during the hike. I saw 4 burros (I managed a picture of one), numerous quail, and not much else. On the return leg I did follow the wash for awhile, just to check it out, then turned back to pick up the trail. I'll post up a few photos. Cheers

Beautiful day outside. Did the loop counter-clockwise. Used hiking poles for the first time in 15+ years, my knees felt pretty good during and post hike. Cheers

I wanted to go to Anthem today so stopping off to hike the Sonoran Preserve was an excellent choice. It's been quite a while since I've hiked here and it's a quick off/on I-17. I didn't really have a plan in mind when I started other than enjoying being outside for a few hours on a perfect day.

RS briefly stopped again today, this time on the ascent to peak 2383, but worked fine on the way back down. I suspect it's nothing to do with the app, more likely is that I've burdened my phone with too many running apps and when adding stopping every 100 ft for photos, somethings got to give. I'll start to unload running apps (other than RS of course), and see if the issue can be resolved. It's a modest loss of distance and AEG, so no big deal if not.

The register at Peak 2383 was signed and a plug for HAZ was included! Newer container, note book and pencils - thanks to the responsible party! A new restroom is being built (they were working today even) at the trailhead, should be completed soon. I'll pick through the 75 photos from today and upload a few. In all, the trails were pretty quiet today, maybe 15 hikers and 2 dozen mtn bikers. Excellent day to be outside! Cheers.

I saw recent posts for this loop and decided it was just what was needed for today. I deviated slightly from the loop posted yesterday by "mazatzal". Thanks for the inspiration and route! RS stopped working twice but each time picked back up by connecting via a straight line from the point it stopped to started again. I do really like the app, and though I run another hiking app concurrent with it, RS saved me some backtracking today.

I wanted a hike that was flat and that I could zone out a bit while taking in some nice views. I parked at Barb's TH and headed out. After about 75 yards I turned back after realizing I left my key in the ignition (motorcycle). Key retrieved and stowed, I started again. After about 50 yards, back I went again, took the GPS out of the cradle, stowed it in the pannier, triple checked that I locked it, and started the hike...again. It was mile 2 that when RS called out to me with my split (cool feature!) I decided to check the route. Hmmm, I thought, everything is blurry....must be due to my glasses being on the seat back at the trailhead. Right where I left them. As I could make out the orange color current route overlayed on the black color route, I wasn't too concerned. Apparently my mission to zone out started before I hit the trail :) Anyway, confession complete, I'll post some pictures (mostly of trail signs). I'll review the route and signs and post some links of the trails here.

I encountered 3 hikers and maybe 30 mtn bikers. Awesome day for a hike! Cheers

Wow, what a great day for a hike! I parked at the Gateway TH and deemed it logical to start 2016 doing loops clockwise and close out the year doing counter clockwise loops. :) As expected, there were a lot of people on the trail today. I don't think I went 5 minutes without encountering someone at any point and approximately a dozen Mtn bikers along the Windgate Pass section of the loop. This loop is exceptionally well marked and maintained. I'll post a few pictures. Happy New Year to all! Cheers

Great day for a hike! Started at parking lot #7 and headed to Ford Canyon trail (my first time in this part of the Canyon). The canyon section that was around the 2.5 mile (?) marker is awesome! I spent about an hour playing around here - climbing and scrambling and decided that to get the loop done before sunset meant stop having fun and hike  I stopped again by the Ford / Mesquite junction to eat lunch. There were maybe 8 people between mile 2 and 9. If I can figure out how to upload photos, I'll do that. Happy New Year to all! Cheers

My first triplog entry, so let's see if I can limit the amount of errors to less than the number of miles I hiked! I parked my motorcycle at the trailhead at parking lot #7. 2 days earlier I'd hiked the Mesquite Canyon Trail out and back, but wanted to do a loop this time. My planned loop was Mesquite Canyon to Willow Canyon to Ford Canyon and return via Mesquite Canyon. I use the "Map My Hike" app on my phone and counting the little side detours the hike came in at 8.52 miles. It was a easy quick hike but very scenic. I'd left the parking lot at 11am and returned at 2pm and encountered about 30 people on the trail (of course, about 25 of them being within a mile and a half of the parking lot). The White Tank Park is close to where I live so I'm going to make an effort to get there a couple of times a week and explore as much as possible. Clearly I need to start taking pictures and posting them as my writing is less descriptive than I'd like.

As an aside, HAZ is a great site that I'd found just this past month! The contributions from so many people on great hikes close by are just what I've been needing. Thank you! I'll try out the "Route Scout" app this next week and how it compares to Map My Hike (MMH). Cheers
