I was coming in from the North side so I decided to take E Houser Rd to S Brady Pump Rd and continue down to the parking area. The dirt road was a little rough but I made it through in my stock height F150 without issue. High clearance is definitely required but you could probably make it through in 2WD. I put my truck in 4H for good measure. The road does get pretty rocky in a few areas.

I parked and crossed the canal. When I was about 0.5 miles on the trail I came across a guy in camo and carrying a bow. He asked if I had seen another hunter closer to the canal which I had not. He was the only person I saw until I got back out to Houser Rd. The recent trail maintenance and cairns made route finding easy and I kept making my way towards the peak. The chute was steep as expected but once you get out of it the tread picks up and you can follow the switchbacks to the top. The views up top are amazing. Heading back down was a little slow, but otherwise uneventful. The weather was perfect and between the mountains and clouds I was in the shade for most of the day.

When I was headed back out on Brady Pump Rd I could see a bunch of cars parked along Houser Rd. As I got closer I could see people standing around the cars and blocking the West bound lane. There was also a bunch of cloth in the road. I was really confused until I got right up to them and figured out that the cloth was parachutes. I didn’t think anything else of it until a little later when I saw a truck on Houser heading East with a pole sticking up in the bed and a line coming off of it. They were parasailing using the truck :)

I don't know how I grew up hiking in Arizona and never made it out to Peralta before but I'm glad I finally did. The parking lot still had plenty of room at 8 AM when we got there. Peralta had running water in it and there were a lot of pools along the trail. By the time we got back to the trail head around 12:30 the parking lot was completely full.

We could hear the water flowing pretty steadily through most of the canyon. Lots of pools along the trail.

I got started at 7 AM which was perfect because there was just enough light to get up the Wind Cave Trail without using my headlamp. As I reached the start of the ridgeline the sun was up. It was really windy but otherwise it was a perfect day for this hike. Making your way across the ridgeline is pretty self explanatory and I took my time looking around. Once I got to the Northern end I decided to exit from the drainage on the East side. It was a little overgrown but nothing too bad. I actually enjoyed this part of the hike. It required a little bit of thought and some patience but nothing more than you have already done up to this point.

We had some friends coming up from Tucson who wanted to go hiking, so I figured this would be a cool place to check out. We met up at Houser Rd and the 87 at 8 A.M. and followed the directions in from there. The roads are maintained and we had no issues getting to the parking area. The gate at the State Trust Land border is destroyed and the fence next to it is down too. This was the first sign that the area gets a lot of traffic. The parking area has some fire pits in the middle of it and there is a bunch of trash scattered around ](*,) . The State Land Permits are available online now, so all you have to do is pay and print out your own permit (land.az.gov/recreat ... rtal). I wonder if the feasibility of getting the permit has to do with the amount of traffic and abuse this site gets, or if most people even bother to get the permit in the first place.

We put our parking passes up and got ready to head out. The sun wasn't over the first hill yet so we didn't stick around the 1st site at all. We took our time and walked around the inside of the larger ridge line (sideways V shape) but didn't really see much until we got around on the southern tip. We found a few glyphs at this site and spent some time looking around. Once we were done there we started back towards the 2nd and 3rd site. We spent a lot of time at the 3rd site boulder hoping and checking out all of the glyphs we could find. After that we stopped off at the 2nd site then headed back towards the parking area. On our way back to the trucks multiple vehicles passed us on N Start Rd. As we got closer to the trucks we saw a few other vehicles in the parking area as well as another group of people setting up camp just South of there. We enjoyed our lunch at the trucks then headed out. I would definitely like to come back to this area to explore some more but I think I will look for an area that is a little more off the beaten path.

It's been over a month since I have been hiking so I was getting impatient to get back out. I had an extra vacation day so that's all of the excuse I needed to take the day off and head out to the Superstitions. After I made it to Flat Iron I headed over to 5024 to take in the views. Made it back down without any problems. You can't really go wrong with this hike.

I parked at the Wind Cave parking lot in the Usery Mountain Park and headed out on the Pass Mountain Trail headed counter clock wise. Once the trail turned North there was a huge Cairn marking a good spot to cross the wash. I crossed here and took the really well defined trail headed up to the Bulldog saddle. After the saddle the foot path/water drainage still provides a pretty good path until you start to turn West and head back towards Pass Mountain. Once you start heading towards Pass Mountain the trail does get a little sparse but not very difficult to follow. There are still plenty of cairns out there and I followed them back up to the Pass Mountain Saddle. It would be hard to get lost here because Pass Mountain is in view. After reaching the Pass Mountain Saddle I just continued on the Pass Mountain trail counter clock wise back to the parking lot. Back at the truck I decided I was still feeling pretty good and decided to hike up Wind Cave trail and to the 3127 summit (next triplog).

After doing my 3004/Pass Mountain loop I decided to head up Wind Caves and continue on to the summit. Past the "hike at your own risk" sign the trail becomes steeper and requires some basic scrambling up to the summit. There are some white arrows and flagging tape marking paths up to the top.

Nice evening hike at San Tan Mountain Park. Not too many other people out and the weather was perfect after the recent rain.

I wanted to get back out to the Superstitions and thought Black Top Mesa would be an interesting destination. I started at First Water TH and took the Dutchman to Bull Pass to BTM then back to Bull Pass and took Black Mesa Trail and Second Water back to the TH. I was on the trail by 6:45 A.M. which was about an hour later than I had originally planned.

Overall the day was enjoyable but did get warm. I only saw 3 people on my way to Bull Pass Trail and nobody again until I was almost back to the TH. I spent about an hour on top of BTM enjoying the views. It was getting warm and I needed to start heading back. I can see how people spend hours on top of the mesa exploring. When it cools off I will be back to look around more.

Black Mesa trail seemed to take a really long time and I was happy when I got to Second Water. Second Water provided a few nice shady spots in the creek beds that I took advantage of before I made it back to the truck. I knew I would need a lot of water on this one and ended up drinking 5 of the 6L I brought.

Took Mrs. Slinky out for a Sunday morning hike. The trail was quite congested on our way down, but otherwise it was an enjoyable hike. The sun came out over the ridge around 8:30 am but the temps were still nice while we were there.

Driving up to the peaks we were watching multiple storm cells brewing around the area. As we pulled up to the Brown's peak trail head it started to sprinkle. We put on our rain gear, grabbed our day packs, and headed out on the trail. After about 30 minutes the rain cleared up and the skies were fairly clear NW of the peaks. With the weather we didn't waste much time on the trail and we started right up the chute when we got to it. When we were about 2/3 of the way up the chute we started to hear thunder from the storm developing on the S side of the peaks (which we could not see). There was no lightning in the area so we decided to continue up. Once we got to the top it was apparent that we were about to get rain. We took a few pictures and started to head back down. As soon as we got back to the chute the clouds rolled in (literally up the chute) and it started to rain. Knowing the conditions were only going to get worse we continued down. It was slow going as the rocks were getting very slippery. We made it down without incident but it took about an hour. Back down on Brown's saddle we decided to take a snack break since we hadn't really rested up to this point. The rain continued all the way back to the trail head and water was starting to pool on the trail. We got back to the parking lot and headed out. I was glad to get my first AZ County High Point in the bag but looking back, chancing the chute in the rain probably wasn't the smartest decision.
