Scorpion trail / pyramid trail loop near the Sedona high school. Surprisingly quiet for Easter weekend. Only saw two bikers and a family. Good cool down since we had more sunlight before meeting friends for camping.

8am start on Easter weekend. Very busy, parking lot full. Passed 15 people on the way up, few more coming down. Nice to see snow packed Humphrey’s from the top. Only lost trail going up once.

Beautiful and cool day. Comfortable scrambling. Saw a dead Diamondback across the trail. We knew we could cross when it was undisturbed by our projectile.

Grateful to have enjoyed Havasu. Evidence of flooding from 2020 in the area; lots of debris and unstable ground. Some people at the campground mentioned they didn't start prepping for the campers until last week of January. They are working through a lot of controlled burning. Had to hitch a ride off the I-40 with friends to make it to check-in. Did you know Hyundai had an engine recall? Wish I knew.

Must check-in before noon of arrival date (day before is fine), no camping at trailhead.
.

Day 1: Hike in - 11.25 miles to site at 4 hrs 15m.
Day 2: To Beaver Falls - 8 miles took all day
Day 3: To Supai twice to talk to Pep Boys(Friends went to the confluence)
Day 4: Hike out - 5 hours of pain

Beautiful morning, will be back to try out the Garden wall multi-pitch with my new rope. We ran down for the fun of it. Bolts on Tom's Thumb seem sketch, high starts.

Decided to throw the family straight into the fire and took them out to Superior. Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister all did a tremendous job as newbies. Some small hiccups getting off-trail, but that's the fun of it. Will be back to drop time.

This hiking experience could be summed up as: nervous laughter. I recruited 3 climbing friends (Teleah, Cole, Chandler) to accompany me up the peak, promising the chute would offer some vertical challenge.

The weather didn't look great - but rain would only fall in the early morning. Off we went, using El Oso Road from the East since I didn't have any off-roading experience and a 2WD Santa Fe. It wasn't bad at all. Before we reached the trailhead we were consumed by fog and 30-40 foot visibility. Supposedly Four Peaks was right in front of us. Nervous laughter #1. We arrived at the empty trailhead parking lot and stepped out into 30 MPH winds. Nervous laughter #2. We donned some layers and set-off into the mist. With some light fall colors it honestly felt more like the PNW. Four Peaks loomed ahead of us, but we couldn't tell.

We made it to the chute. Nervous laughter #3. Small streams of water ran down the rocks as the wind whipped around us. We numbed our hands in pools of water as we scrambled up. Eventually we couldn't go further. Apparently, we were at the summit.

Time to downclimb. Nervous laughter #4. Honestly, we made good time. I'd agree that it's harder going down but it never felt too treacherous. Invigorated by our survival we practically jogged the whole way down. We were on such a high, I was somehow convinced to take FR401 out as a "shortcut." Anyways, that was awful.

10/10 would do again.

There were two great reasons to undertake the Kendrick double: 1) Push my distance to a PB and 2)be in the company of Linda and the legendary Joe.

We began at 7:20a and the first uphill had nice, gradual switchbacks all the way up to the cabin. The Pumpkin Trail was enjoyable, probably only as a decline, and pockets of fall colors opened up to us. We took lunch within the flat reprieve of the Connector Trail. Moving up Bull Basin was the most horribly pleasant hiking experience of my life. Beautiful aspen stands and wheezing the whole way through. We finished with a breezy four mile decline to the car and I was proud! Thanks to Linda and Joe for pushing me through it.

Popped on the headlamp and the batteries were burnt out. What! I just bought it!

Easy going, cool experience with a large group of friends. All I needed was a light jacket.

 Slate's Day Off Toprope 5.10aSportG
Warm-up on TR. This is when I realized I probably didn't want to lead at all.
 Great Race Toprope 5.10d
Couldn't get past the crux. Tiny undercling to first knuckle with right hand, left hand to horn, try to find feet next time. Fun!
Life is good! My friend Teleah invited me to go North with her two friends, Paul and Stephen. Together they are the strongest outdoor climbers I have ever met. I've only lead outdoors a couple times, so I was happy to Top Rope on grades much higher than I'm used to.

Clouds and thunder all around, but it only rained for a 2 minutes total. Will be back to conquer these on lead in no time. On the way out we encountered a pack of maybe 15 cow elk. Went straight to Pho dinner.

My favorite hike to date. Linda invited me on her annual Humphrey's hike the same time my friend Cole reached out. She laid out expectations/packing list and we took off at 1:00am from Snow Bowl. My biggest concern was being at that elevation for the first time, but Cole and I were pleasantly surprised with our fitness. I also drank two Liquid IVs in anticipation. 4 hours up, 1 hour on the summit, and 2 hours down total. I might call myself a full fledged hiker here soon. At least my mom was impressed. :)

Was excited to see temperatures dipping slightly this week when Linda invited me out for a morning on South Mountain. 5am start out of the Pima Canyon trailhead.

Nice workout moving up and down the ridges. I jumped out of my socks (and into Linda) when a small speckled rattler came too close for comfort. Better than a cup of coffee.

My first time canyoneering! Had some regulars (Chandler & Sarah) take Cole and I out for the first time after camping off the edge of the canyon on Friday. I used a a full-length O'Neil wetsuit and it felt perfect - despite the chocolate milk colored waters. Chandler/Sarah were impressed with how deep/fast the water was moving. There was a wolf spider hiding out in Chandler's suit that got him good. He felt fine, so we continued on to 3 rappels and 2 cliff jumps. I've never cliff jumped before, so that was an experience.

My dinky Black Diamond ATC was too small to feed the soaked rope through, so we had to tie one on and pull it back up for each of my rappels. We took our time and did some light bouldering to enjoy the same cliff jump twice. I definitely chose the wrong shoes and regretted not having something with better grip. Honestly surprised I didn't hurt myself with the number of times I fell. Despite that, I can't wait to go out with them again. So grateful for good friends willing to show me how it's done.

Met Linda for another early morning hike before I WFH on Fridays. This time we pushed a little harder with a good ascent on the first half (working counterclockwise on the loop). I enjoyed using Route Scout for the first time. Pretty hot - but I still had a great time since I don’t know any better.
