Mae sure you have accurate directions. We wanted to do the shuttle, bt the directions we had made us start a mile off. We did some serious bushwacking up the side of thehill to get to the trail. The views form the top were beautiful and once on the trail, we really enjoyed it.

Wonderful views, challengeing hike. The road at the end is quite steep, but once you get to the top, it is well worth it. We did about 14 miles on this hike.

Perfect hike to do before heading back down to Phoenix. Nice cloudy day. Quiet and peaceful. Good heart pumper on the way up.

Love this hike. Started early, 6:30, but was pretty warm when we were finished. Thank goodness for that cool breeze. Gonna have to cut back in the valley until fall. On to Northern AZ hikes.

Loved this hike! It was gorgeous. Weather was perfect as a cold front had been in day before - sky was beautiful blue. The girls and I really enjoyed this one.

Really hot this day. Not much water. Even without it, still beautiful.

One of my favorite hikes so close to the valley. Out and back, headed off to the right and did another trail. Was great.

This hike was amazing. It was a pefect day for it - lots of clear blue skies, a little wind. We saw a bunch of wild life. One section had experienced some strong winds that had knocked over so many trees in a mile wide area. We had to do some serious crawling up, over and around. Beautiful flowers, lots of crystal clear water.

Great hike close to town! Plenty of parking and the signs were placed well. Beautiful cloudy day, which made all the mountains look pretty cool. Nice views from all four directions. Would do again. Want to explore this are more, but a little turned off with the cost of the permit to hike in a lof of this area.

I would agree that this isn't worth it. You are on the Castle Springs Road for a while. When we thought we were at the road to get to the trailhead, we wern't. Ones never to waste a trip, we parked and created our own hike, using all the trails the dirt bikers use. Was a pretty area though. We did run into a group of Burros, which was pretty neat.

Thie day was a perfect one as it stayed in the 70's with a cool mountain breeze blowing and blue, blue skies. The way up was just enough to get our hearts pumping and be ready for a snack at the top. The way back down was quick with nice views to enjoy. The girls and I enjoyed the hike so much, on our way back out, we checked out another trail (the name excapes me at the moment) for another 30 minutes. We just weren't ready to leave. There are quite a few hikes in this area to come back and do.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. I got together a group of 14 and we headed down south for a weekend of camping and hiking. We got the group spot, which had plenty of room. Only downfall is even when we were playing a game fairly quietly we got shushed (by the nice campground host who felt horrible about it!) The hike on Saturday was beautiful. It was fun to look at the formations and figure out what they looked like. We took our time and really enjoyed the views. Well worth the drive, a great trip.

Loved this hike. The girls and I arrived in time to get a parking spot and we were immediately on our way up, up, up. With the gentle breeze and temps supposed to hit 80, it was a perfect day to get out and enjoy nature. And we did. It is always great to look at the amazing rock formations in Sedona. As we climbed, it also a nice distraction. The area was greener than I thought it would be, which was a nice surpirse. The scenery changed as we reached the saddle, and then again as we headed into the trees to finish the climb (ahhh, the scent of evergreens!) We had a snack at the overlook, and then headed back down with pie at Rock Springs Cafe in the forefront of our thoughts...

My girlfriends and I set out to do this hike early Sunday morning, dressed in l/s shirts and shorts, loaded down with snacks and water. Where else can you wear shorts in Feb? Even though it hasn't rained in oh so long, the hike was beautiful. I did miss the water running though the area. Wasn't quite as fun to cross a dry creek bed continously. I've hiked all over this area, but it was my first trip through Calvary Pass. I can imagine the beauty in a wetter season as it was still pretty all dried out. Not a lot of wind in the valley either. We stopped at the junction with Dutchman's Pass for a light lunch and to shake all the loose rocks out of our boots and then decided to go up Bull Pass as well for an extra workout (as if 15.5 miles wasn't enough). With the warmer weather that day (83), we ran out of water right near the end of the hike (never happened before and we've been doing this together for three years now). In the last half mile, we shared a couple of apples (ggod liquid in there) and were money. So please, be sure to bring a lot of water on this hike. To celebrate, we headed over to Tortilla Flat for burgers and ice cold drinks. What a great hike, fun day.

The morning started out chilly, but warmed up nicely as we crossed creeks, and then started the climb up, up, up. We actually missed the 248 (according to the map we had, it looked like it didn't show up for a while, but I guess it was immediately) and stayed on 247 for our entire hike. It was beautiful though, so we didn't mind. This took up up a good steep couple of hills, with skull mesa to our left the entire time. It was neat to see the change in the landscape as we continued to climb. I bet this area would be gorgeous in the spring. We hiked until we came down a hill, among a bunch of lava-looking rocks, including one that had a barrel cactus growing out of it, to an sign that said cottonwood trail. We had our lunch here and then turned around. It was a perfect day and we were away from the smog in the valley with big blue skies.
