| no partners | | The morning started out chilly, but warmed up nicely as we crossed creeks, and then started the climb up, up, up. We actually missed the 248 (according to the map we had, it looked like it didn't show up for a while, but I guess it was immediately) and stayed on 247 for our entire hike. It was beautiful though, so we didn't mind. This took up up a good steep couple of hills, with skull mesa to our left the entire time. It was neat to see the change in the landscape as we continued to climb. I bet this area would be gorgeous in the spring. We hiked until we came down a hill, among a bunch of lava-looking rocks, including one that had a barrel cactus growing out of it, to an sign that said cottonwood trail. We had our lunch here and then turned around. It was a perfect day and we were away from the smog in the valley with big blue skies. |
