Best hike in the Pinals

Post by ddgrunning »

I've never been hiking in the Pinals, but will be heading up there next weekend. What's your favorite hike in the area? I've looked at the descriptions for Six Shooter, Ice House, Telephone Trail, and various loops. Anything in the 5-10 miles or so is fair game.

Icehouse / Six shooter is the classic loop there, but it's more than 10 miles.
Not a fan of the Telephone trail.
Pioneer and Bobtail Ridge are a little "Thick"
You could drive to the top for the views and sample some of the upper portions of the trails if 5 - 10 is your limit.
The upper portions of all of the trails is where you get the tree cover and views.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

I've only been there once, but I was also going to suggest driving to the top and then hiking down and back up rather than starting from the bottom. That way you avoid the desert scrub at the lower elevations.

You can make a loop using Icehouse and Telephone that's about 6.5 miles. I'm not sure how scenic Telephone is though.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Telephone is OK, Sixshooter is the best, in my opinion. Kelner is meh. Wandering around up top is not bad.
