We did this hike starting with the Derrick Trail and coming back on the Horton. It was a really beautiful day. The Derrick is definitely the road less traveled. We saw one group the whole way to the spring but coming back on the Horton, we must have passed five or six groups. We saw some century plants in bloom which was awesome. We also dropped down into a creek bed probably a half mile before the spring and came across more butterflies than I've probably ever seen in one place. Going up the Derrick trail is tougher than the Horton for sure but well worth it-- less crowds and much more diverse terrain.
