They're really starting to strut their stuff now. A flat and easy walking trail (sandy at the start) for the first mile and then it starts uphill gradually. This is where we turned around. We'd like to return another cool day and try getting to the top. I was glad to hear they have some "senior citizen switchbacks" along the way. They're doing a major retrofit on the trailhead parking lot but just park across the street. I think this would be a great trip to take friends on...the drive over Gate's Pass, hike this trail, and drive back out along the Gate's Pass Road. They will really get their fill of our beautiful Sonoran Desert. Especially in the spring when the desert is coming alive with all the cacti blooming. |
