| no partners | | Some hiking friends that I haven't seen in a few years were out in my area, so I decided to say hello and get some fresh air on a fine day. We did the loop by going up King Canyon Wash to the Mam-A-Gah picnic area, where we picked up the Sendero Esperanza trail and headed for Gould Mine. I hike frequently from the King Canyon trail head, and after all these years of doing it, I like going up the wash better than taking the road. I thought we were going to head back to the cars on the Gould Mine trail when we reached the mine, but Alice, ever the adventurer, took us up the Esperanza to a short distance below the junction with Hugh Norris. I knew she would get in a short off trail scramble as she led us up a nice outcrop of dark rocks for our lunch break. There are some amazing hikers in this club; Alice is in her mid 80's and Raj, with whom I was discussing some of the concessions we have had to make with the passage of time, is 78. Awesome! After the break we headed back to the mine and then back to the cars on Gould Mine trail. This was a very enjoyable outing with good conversation and reminiscence. |
