I looked in the book and it's right off the first switchback. Once at the trailhead I could see the old trail and mine tailings from the parking lot. That was easy. After getting a look at the mine I hiked out Bluff Spring trail. I spotted 4 whitetail deer just off trail which took off up toward Bluff Spring Mountain. Nearing the end of the trail, I past a group of backpackers hiking out. After turning around, I decided to do some off trail exploring on the south end of Bluff Spring Mountain. I wanted to see if I could spot any remnants of the hiking cabin that was built from the wood salvaged from the Williams camp. I didn't find any sign but I scrambled up to a good vantage point and got a good view of the area. I started heading out about 4:30p. I was wondering if I'd see a rattlesnake since the weather was about right. About a mile from the trailhead I saw a dead diamondback on the trail. It wasn't there on the way in and looked pretty fresh. That was a waste. |
