I arrived at First Water TH at 7a as planned but Dave was late. I waited 30 minutes then thought if he slept in or was stuck in traffic then he would catch up. I signed the log and started hiking. I should have mentioned which trail I was taking in. We went in different routes. Dave was hurrying and I was stopping to check out new points of interest I recently found out about. So now Dave is waiting for me. I was off trail exploring on a hill when I saw Dave on the trail. We were later than planned but still pushed on up Deering Canyon for anther look at the choke stone and the rock jam underneath. It's probably doable going up but what about coming down? What if the stone twists when we put weight on it? Okay so we passed on taking the risk and did some alternate exploring. We found an old mine in Deering Canyon. We located the small rock enclosure off Cavalry trail and Dave got to check out the large corral. We follow a large cairn that looked like a claim marker up to a ridge and paralelled Cavalry trail for a bit. We also located second water spring, which I never went to before and spotted a second old mine up on the hill for another day. Plan A was a bust but Plan B yielded some good results. Thanks Dave!
