| no partners | | I wanted to hike long today but given the forecast heat I trimmed it back. I set out to find the Hickey Draw mine but even with GPS points didn't find much. This worked to my advantage because I hiked around and found an old trail. It's a well worn section about a mile long which parallels the Dutchman trail. After missing this mine I decided to check out a hole I saw on the east side of Palomino Mountain. It was an old mine but mostly filled in. From there I could see an alcove on the west side of Black Top Mesa. It looked like there are some tailings to the side of it. I had other plans so that one will wait for another trip. Next, I started hiking north along the base of Palomino Mtn and decided to keep going around to the west side. I heard the Aylor mines were all filled in but I found an open one. I explored that mine a little and hiked down toward Little Boulder Canyon. I saw several prospects along the way and found a prospect down below which could be John Kochera's Little Dutchman #1 or #2. On the trip out I hiked back the old Dutchman trail to see how long it was. I was out by 11a and it was starting to warm up but I was happy with my finds. |
