Among our fellow hikers were a group from the Maricopa Audubon Society, and some people carrying baskets picking mushrooms. My wife and I can see why people rave about this hike a premier "fall hike". It was very beautiful and I can only imagine how all the numerous aspens would look like with their leaves turned. According to my GPS we hiked exactly 3.5 miles before stopping for lunch and then turning around. We received some rain on the way out which made the trail muddy and slippery. We passed one hiker who evidently hurt her ankle after it rained. We made it back to the house in Mesa by 5:00pm. It was a great day trip away from the scorching 112 heat. It was probably 75 degrees on the trail. I kind of wish we would have proceeded to the Weatherford Trail junction and completed the whole 10 miles, but with the rain it was best we turned around. We'll try the rest of the trail from the other end latter. |
