The trails were very busy as the season is upon us. I topped off my water and continued on. My plan was to meet the crew on the other side somewhere between the start of 39 and the end of 39.
I had wanted to stop at Ribbon Falls as I enjoyed it immensely last trip across. This time however I would pass it by since my original plan was to start at 7am and I didn't want to keep the guys waiting.
Up the North Kaibab I went. I had a sore throat but otherwise felt okay. The last mile or so was a bit of a push but once on top I was somehow quickly revitalized. I looked in the parking lot to see if Bruce's Pathfinder was there. Nope, and then I spotted it at the end of a long row of cars on the street. About that time I saw a red baseball cap heading down the AZT on the other side of the road. Wait is that Joe? Is that Denny? Holy nuts Batman! It's them! They had just got started so I jumped right in and was able to hike all of 39 with them to where I had left my Jeep the week before.
Personally I think I prefer the Bright Angel trail over south Kaibab. They are both fantastic but BA is a little easier on the knees and at least for me the times I have traveled them The Bright Angel had less traffic. |
