I love this trail! I have to agree with those who say that the scenery is better than on the BA, and the trail more interesting. It was also noticably less crowded - past Ooh Aah Point, I hardly saw anyone.
I reached Ooh Aah Point in 17 mins, then Cedar Ridge in 14 more ... still felt good so I continued 8 more minutes down to O'Neill Butte Saddle. O'Neill Butte looks like it would be mad fun to climb on.
After a nice rest, photos, food and drink, I started back up ... 13 mins to Cedar Ridge, where I met up with a family of Euros who I would see the whole way up - traded nods and smiles with them along the way, not finding out until the top that they spoke excellent english ... nice people from Denmark.
From Cedar Ridge to Ooh Aah took 21 mins.
Ooh Aah to the top - 32 mins.
Didn't really see any wildlife along the trail, except for a mixed group of turkey vultures and ravens who were circling close over the cliffs near the top. Plenty of elk and deer on the ride home.
Also heard sirens/ambulance pulling up the trailhead area while I was ascending.
Really, really enjoyed this trail - when I do make it to the river for the first time, it will be via the SK. |
