My first trip into the Mazzies, and my first night out since my daughter was born in February. Missed my dog, but glad I left her home this time. The heat on the way in would have been too much. A few weeks of sleep deprivation, and warmer than expected temps made the steep hike in somewhat torturous, but we made it to Bear Saddle in a few hours. Thank god for Lily slowing others down a bit for me. ;) Had a relaxing afternoon and evening in camp, found decent water at Bear Spring, and slept my first 8-hour night in weeks. Just what I needed for the hike out. A nice morning fire with coffee and oatmeal got me recharged.

The loop around Mazatzal peak and down the Barnhardt Trail was a blast, and it was cool enough to be an almost flawless morning. I really enjoyed this one. Great scenery and no other hikers until Barnhardt Canyon. The rocky trails gave my ankles some trouble on the way out, so boots next time instead of trail runners. It was great to finally get to this area.
