1st trip
Fun day with Kyle. Started from the Washington Park Trailhead and made our way up the Colonel Devin Trail. We set a steady pace as we climbed up to the rim. From there we went east on 300. This was the monotonous section and we wanted to get it over with first. We actually commented that our hiking finally began when we reached the Houston Brothers Trail and by this point we hiked over six miles.

The hiking up Houston Brothers is beautiful as you make your way through the forest. After some time you reach a meadow and follow that for a while. This hike was a nice change of pace after all our recent hiking in the Canyon. We stopped by the different cabins along the way and took our time enjoying the area.

We hit the Fred Haught trail and kind of zoned out as the miles flew by. We took a brief detour over to the Fred Haught Cabin. We took another break there and then started the final grind back to 300. We didn't talk much and basically put one foot in front of the other. Eventually we reached the Colonel Devin Trail and we cruised back on down to the jeep at Washington. This was a long and great day. I'm really glad we started from below the rim. On the ride back to Phoenix there were a ton of cars, trucks and campers heading up the 87. Its going to be a busy weekend up on the rim.
