pam came up with another excellent choice for a summer water hike
this is in the 100 classic hikes book, and has been on my list
hikes like this are best when you have time to explore and play in the water, and we did some of both
got an early start from phoenix, and hit bell trail under an overcast sky around 8:00
thought we might get rained on early morning and late afternoon
started out on the old road, which was pleasant enough, then hit the trail after a couple of miles
accessed the creek a couple of times, once at a nice swimming hole we would hit on the way back
enjoyed the actual trail as it climbed above the creek, looking down on wier trail, a lush forest canopy, and a glimpse or two of another swimming hole
arrived at the crossing and looked around some
saw where the trail continued past the creek, and it looked much less traveled
found a black rattlesnake just off the trail
spent some time at the crack looking around, taking pictures and cooling off in my floatie
made our way upstream a ways, but not far enough to find the pools - next time
pretty slow going
came back to the crack, which had been invaded by a large group complete with a baby stroller, but had one side to ourselves
best to do this one on a weekday if possible
took a lunch break, had a swim and watched some kids jump off the rocks
the sun came out and heated things up a bit
creek water was very pleasant
finally packed up and headed out as clouds started moving in
made a stop at the first swimming hole we found to cool off again
easy hike, relaxing and fun day
we both like the water hikes
good choice pam, and thanks for driving
