| partners | | i always enjoy reading about randy's road trips, so a few weeks ago i invited myself to come hang out with him sometime
he had a summer wildflower trip to the huachucas in mind, so we made a plan for this past weekend
met in tucson, then followed randy on a scenic route through southern arizona
my first time in this area, and i can see why it's one of randy's favorites
drove up the winding road to reef townsite campground and set up camp
nice remote campground and good views along the way
i found the border surveillance blimp interesting - could see it from a long way away
randy had picked out carr peak for our hike
the old sawmill spring trailhead was right across from the campground
there's another access from ramsey vista campground
started up late morning and first checked out old sawmill spring
lots of fire and flooding damage
the wildflower show more than made up for it
abundant in number and variety the entire hike
one area with a tunnel of columbines and aspen that was beautiful
a nice climb with great overviews of the huachucas
the burns have left the peak more open and since i didn't know how it was before, i liked it just fine
excellent choice for an intro to this range
heard some thunder and saw clouds building but only got a few sprinkles
miller peak immediately went on my to do list |
