Job completed, I wet my cotton t-shirt in the chilled fountain and proceeded up. The first half mile is very close to residential, then climbs to the "Scenic View' saddle, which I did not find particularly scenic. From there the houses begin to fade into the distance and the trail climbs toward Sunrise Peak. Taking the summit spur, I was soon on top, where a group of dull yellow dragonflies were doing the summit boogie. I found some nice shade on the east slope of the southern summit, and had a snack while enjoying the silence.
Heading back down, I crossed paths with 3 hikers, one wearing black neck to toe with no hat or sunglasses.
A really nice trail once you get past the Scenic Overlook, and that chilled fountain is the Bees Knees. Midday in August should not be your first choice, but take what you can get. |
