| no partners | | I decided to get out for a hike instead of a jog since the Steeler game is Monday night this week. Took the Pemberton Trail north to the North Trail, which is about a 3 mile loop. The North Trail is now connected to the Pemberton Trail by the Chuparosa Trail, which is convenient. The North Trail has a lot more vegetation along it than most other areas of the park. It's a kind of a guided trail that has numbered markers along it as well as signs that identify various plants.
From there, as I headed south, I took the Scenic Trail and ended up back at the main trailhead. On my way south on the Pemberton Trail, I saw a horse rider coming the other way. we met at the road crossing. I stopped fully and stepped off the trail as you're supposed to yield for horses, not the least of which is for the safety of the rider in case the horse gets spooked. Just as the horse and rider were getting across the road, the rider looked down the trail and said, "Bikers." Two bikers were coming the other way and only began to slow down about 5 yards away, at which point one rider asked, "OK to pass", without actually stopping. at this point, the horse rider pulled his horse off the trail with some difficulty and allowed the horse to pace and circle as the jackass bikers continued along their way.
The Scenic Trail is very rocky, which was hard on my feet after 8 miles prior. Finished up at 10am, four hours total hiking time with no stops. |
