There was rain in today's forecast so I thought I would get an early start to the day and get some shots of the sunrise. I headed out to Hieroglyphic Trail arriving before sunrise and was the only car in the lot I had to use a flashlight to keep on the trails in the pre-dawn light, but I could already see the outline of the mountains to the East.
The sunrise was less than spectacular but the clouds provided the added detail that I was hoping for. I got a couple shots along the trail and daylight was beginning to break as I entered the canyon. The sun was hiding behind some dark clouds so lighting was pretty dim and most of the early color had already past.
There's running water in the canyon so the pools are full and it's always nice to hear the sounds of the water trickling through the rocks. I got a few more shots of the water flowing into the pools and of course, the Balancing Rock way up on the hillside.
On my return trip, I ran into a couple more hikers heading up and, of course, the sun began to break out of the clouds, but the magic moment was now well past and it was time to go home and finish my breakfast
